Muttamala is an interesting  egg starter popular in malabar areas especially  in Kannur District. It's one of most popular unavoidable starter during parties for kannur people. 

Muttamala is very simple recipes that we can do it quickly at home without any tension. Only few ingredients  needed for making this tasty starter.
It's not only a starter but also dessert too. In ancient days people who lived in kannur serve Muttamala as starter. But now today our new generation changed its serving. Today Muttamala served as a dessert.

MUTTAMALA...EGG STARTER





The recepi is quite simple. It's made up of egg. Egg yolks are squeezed in the boiling sugar syrup which gives muttamala. No other ingredients  were used to egg yolks Then egg whites are beaten with sugar, milk powder and Cardamom powder. Then it's cooked in a steamer for 10 minutes. Its like pudding texture. We called it as PINNANATHAPPAM -in kannur language. The final serving of muttamala is serving the two items altogether. It means first place two or three pieces of PINNANATHAPPAM, then sprinkle MUTTAMALA over it.

I learned this recipe from my mother. My mother makes it perfectly. This recepi I tested  two times. My first attempt was successful. My husband likes very much. So I liked to share this recepi. So last week I tried it again. This Muttamala recepi is very tasty. You can try your best at home with few ingredients.

Muttamala  is a delicious  starter / dessert that served mostly during the time of iftar, eid ,functions and parties.
The colour of Muttamala gives special attraction to the guest. The attractive yellowish Muttamala makes the guest happy and enjoying. 

Let's follow my simple recepi to make Muttamala at your home.You can  enjoy your weekend with delicious sweety Muttamala. It's sure that your kids likes it more.


INGREDIENTS:

Egg -5

Sugar - 1 cup ( for sugar syrup)

Water - 1 cup(for sugar syrup)

Cardamom powder - 1/2  tsp

Sugar - 1/2 cup ( for pinnanathappam)

Milk powder - 2 tbsp

Salt - pinch

PREPARATIONS:

FOR MUTTAMALA

○ Take a vessel, add 1 cup water.

○ Add 1 cup sugar

○ Mix well, once it began to boil, squeeze beated egg yolks .

○boil the squeezed  egg yolks for 3 seconds.

○ Take out from the sugar syrup and transfer it into the colander for draining excess syrup.

○ Make all batches by following same methods.

○ Tasty muttamala ready.

FOR PINNANATHAPPAM

○ Beat the egg whites 

○ Add 1/2 cup sugar

○ Add 2 tbsp of milk powder

○ Add Cardamom powder -1/2 tsp

○ Mix all the ingredients and beat again with egg whites.

○ Take a steamer, grease oil/ghee on a steel plate, transfer the beated egg whites into the plate. Steam it for 15 minutes  in a medium flame.


MUTTAMALA...EGG STARTER



○ After 15 minutes, Keep aside for cool. Then you can transfer it into the serving bowl and cut acording to your preferences.


●■● Take a serving plate transfer 3 or 4 piece of PINNANATHAPPAM , then sprinkle or spread muttamala over it.●■●
