KUZHALAPPAM  IS A VERY SIMPLE AND POPULAR SNACK OF MALABAR. IT IS A FRIED SNACKS WITH A GOOD BLEND OF MAIDA, EGG, BLACK SESAME SEED etc. KUZHALAPPAM IS A TRADITIONAL FAVOURITE SNACKS WHICH CAN BE SERVED WITH HOT TEA OR COFFEE. IT CAN BE STORED MORE THAN A WEEK IN AN AIRTIGHT CONTAINER.

KUZHALAPPAM IS A SPECIAL SNACKS OF MALABAR AREA ESPECIALLY KOZHIKODE, KANNUR AND KAZARGODE AREA. PEOPLE IN MAKABAR AREA TREATS THEIR GUEST WITH SOME TRADITIONAL MOUTH WATERING SNACKS.  CRISPY KUZHALAPPAM, ACHAPPAM, BANANA CHIPS AND SPICY MIXTURE ARE SOME OF THE TRADITIONAL SNACKS OF MALABARIANS  WHO USUALLY SERVED IN TREATING GUESTS, HOUSWARMING  CEREMONY etc . 

KUZHALAPPAM IS VERY OLD  TRADITIONAL  SNACKS OF MALABAR. HOWEVER, KUZHALAPPAM IS MADE WITH UNIQUE TECHNIQUES. THEY ARE MADE BY DESIGNING THE DOUGH IN AMAZING PATTERN USING FOLDING AND PRESSING BY FINGERS.

HERE IS THE SIMPLE AND EASY RECIPE TO MAKE KUZHALAPPAM. LET'S TRY AND ENJOY WITH A CUP OF HOT TEA OR COFFEE.

INGREDIENTS

ALL PURPOSE FLOUR (MAIDA) - 1/2 KG

EGG - 1

SUGAR -1/2 CUP

SALT

OIL - FRYING 

WATER

BLACK SESAME SEEDS - 1 tbsp

                                       COOK TIME : 15 min

PREPARATION

🔷 Take a bowl, add egg and sugar .

🔷 Beat well until the sugar melts.

🔷 Then add All purpose flour, sesame seeds, and a pinch of salt into this egg mixture. Mix well with your hand .

🔷 Add enough water to make a dough. The dough should not be too soft or tiet. You can make it like a  chapati dough. Keep it aside for 1 hour.

🔷 Divide the dough into 8 equal balls. Take one ball, make a thin sheet by using chapathi roller. Then make all other balls to a thin sheet. 

*Cut lightly each and every sheet in 1 inch breadth and keep it aside.

*Then take one cut piece 

*Again cut it into 3 parts . You get 3 small pieces.

*Then take 1 piece from that 

*Then fold that  piece in an  opposite direction and just press it.

🔷 Then you can see a hole inside you folded place. This method of  making a hole is called as KUZHALAPPAM. 

🔷 Make all balls one by one by following these method. 

🔷 Heat enough oil in a heavy  bottemmed kadai , transfer each and every folded pieces . Fry it in a medium flame until it turns to light golden colour. Don't over cook it, otherwise it will hard to eat.
